Oracle E-Business Suite

Valuable Features

Patrick Simolini explains that “APEX is fundamentally PL/SQL solution with a lot of SQL. It lives inside the database. Therefore your existing EBS team who are already experts in SQL and PL/SQL can get up to speed very, very quickly with Apex. Apex is a declarative environment therefore it’s a very rapid application development environment so you can do stuff really quickly.”

“The functional knowledge is the most valuable feature”, writes Adhir Mandal. Mandal shares that Oracle EBS has many different problems, but I think the main feature is the functionality, how it works together. You can probably find other products that work with Oracle database, but because that’s their own product, EBS tightly integrates with it. I think that’s the most valuable thing.”

Room for Improvement

Mandal also identifies the weak spots he’s found in Oracle EBS:

“Their UI is not the best. It is an area with room for improvement, big time. I think they can go completely out of Java, the applet version. If they make it completely browser driven, like HTML and so on, that will be the best…it uploads a whole slew of Java products and applets, which is very heavy-duty stuff. It doesn’t have to be.”

For DBA436206, the bugs and constant need to “apply patches and updates” to fix them is what needs to be improved, “especially since it happens to frequently.”

Valuable Features

Muhammad Umer lists several valuable features:

  • “Supported over 180 types of business
  • Seamless integration inside SAP
  • Quick updates
  • Built-in localized versions”

Room for Improvement

But for Umer, “the talent management sub-modules need to be improved more. Clients are looking for more flexibility and a better GUI.”

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

“The most valuable feature is the scope of functionality that JD Edwards covers” writes  Sue Shaw. Shaw describes how “you could start small with something like financials and HR payroll, and you can expand it to be used for asset maintenance, distribution, manufacturing…”

Naveen Shetty points to the “robust supply chain model”, describing that it “greatly reduces the need for customization via code changes.”

“The most valuable feature is customization through E1 tools” states Carlos Arrieta, “because Oracle JDE is neither prepared nor updated in time for Latin America localizations.”

Room for Improvement

Carlos Arrieta would like to see the following:

  • “Improvements in GL, AP, AR and sales and supply chain
  • A standard solution for the deployment server to automate, assemble, build, and deploy packages by schedule. We need to develop or look for third party solutions. The same goes for E1 Pages.
  • An easier setup”

Naveen Shetty and Sue Shaw both write that JD Edwards EnterpriseOne’s report development tools needs to be enhanced, and Shetty specifies further that there is a need for “more GUI interfaces and it needs to be more user centric.”

Valuable Features

James Palliparambil shares that “We’ve had a really excellent customer experience with it because of two main features:

  1. It’s easy to upgrade
  2. It interfaces well with other systems”

Palliparambil explains how ease-of-upgrade is “important because we need to maintain the our workflow without the interruption of waiting for the system to upgrade. And we have other applications we run, so it’s important that PeopleSoft can interface with them and everything works together.”

Seniorte516327 calls Peoplesoft “one of the best on-prem ERP systems on the market with robust features” describing it as a “complete suite with modules that fully cover all the needs of any business.”

The most valuable feature of this product is the HR suite; it’s a leading vendor for human resources in the market” says snrsysteea80.

Room for Improvement

“There are a couple of areas for improvement” says James Palliparambi, “including better overall performance as well as an even quicker update process so that we have as minimal of downtime as possible…it’s very important that we maintain our workflow.”

For snrsysteea80, the EPM side is the point for improvement, “since they have different products doing that”, adding that “I would not go on the HR side but they have tools such as the EPM or CRM tools which need to be improved and become a little bit better than the other competitors.”

Microsoft Dynamics AX

Valuable Features

The finance and finance reporting features are good” writes Clint Patterson, explaining that “the ability to use it with Excel means you can get the reports you need.”

Room for Improvement

Patterson adds that he would “like to see improvements in manufacturing”, sharing that he reached out to the technical support team responsible for this issue, but never saw results.
